Sponsored by Fluvanna Master Gardeners......
Gardening can be therapeutic for anyone and has been used as therapy for those with physical, emotional and social disabilities, for children, and for those who are elderly.
On Saturday June 7, 2014 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm the Fluvanna Master Gardeners will host a community education program on Therapeutic Gardening. The Master Gardeners will also be operating the Horticultural Help Desk from Noon to 1 pm.
This program is presented by Phyllis Turner, PhD, RN, VA Cooperative Extension Master Gardener, Bedford County, VA. and author of the VCE Publication “Therapeutic Gardening” (HORT-66NP). http://pubs.ext.vt.edu/HORT/HORT-66/HORT-66.html
Learn how to:
•Adapt the garden – build raised beds, containers, wider paths
•Adapt the gardener – exercise to tone, use the right tools
•Adapt the plant materials – select plants that reduce the work of gardening
The program will be conducted at the Lake Monticello Clubhouse which is located at 41 Ashlawn Blvd, Lake Monticello – which is on Lake Monticello Road (route 618), Palmyra, VA 22963. From outside the Lake, go to the Main Gate on Lake Monticello Road, tell the security staff that you are attending the Therapeutic Gardening workshop in the Clubhouse. Go straight through the gate on Ashlawn Blvd until the end. The Clubhouse is on the left. The session will be in the Faulconer Room on the upper level.
