Therapeutic Gardening – JUNE 7 AT 1 PM – a FREE educational program OPEN to the Fluvanna Community…Help Desk opens at Noon.

Sponsored by Fluvanna Master Gardeners......

Gardening can be therapeutic for anyone and has been used as therapy for those with physical, emotional and social disabilities, for children, and for those who are elderly.

On Saturday June 7, 2014 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm the Fluvanna Master Gardeners will host a community education program on Therapeutic Gardening.  The Master Gardeners  will also be operating the Horticultural Help Desk from Noon to 1 pm.

This program is presented by Phyllis Turner, PhD, RN, VA Cooperative Extension Master Gardener, Bedford County, VA. and author of the VCE Publication “Therapeutic Gardening” (HORT-66NP).  http://pubs.ext.vt.edu/HORT/HORT-66/HORT-66.html

Learn how to:

•Adapt the garden – build raised beds, containers, wider paths

•Adapt the gardener – exercise to tone, use the right tools

•Adapt the plant materials – select plants that reduce the work of gardening

plant-sale-2012-300x87

Hi, All Gardening Friends - Thank you for making our May 3 Plant Sale a success.   The proceeds will enable us to continue our Plant a Row project at the Community Garden at Pleasant Grove, the Children's Garden at Carysbrook Elementary, providing community education programs and many other activities promoting environmentally sound horticulture practices.  We look forward to seeing you at our gardening Help Desk at the Pleasant Grove Farmers' Market on Tuesdays from 2 to 5 pm or contact us online at www.fluvannamg.org.

The FMG Plant Sale is Saturday May 3, 2014!!

Sale begins at 9 am and ends at noon.  There will be a selection of deer resistant plants (please note – no plant is deer proof); sun and shade plants;  annuals and perennials.  Edibles will include herbs, tomatoes and peppers.

Some of our plants are grown by our Fluvanna Master Gardeners.  However, we are a small group and cannot grow enough variety and quantities to meet the demand. We obtain the rest of our plants from an established local nursery in Fluvanna. The plants we sell are used to local growing conditions.

Fluvanna Master Gardeners will be on hand to  answer your gardening and plant questions.

Please come and support our fundraising effort.  Funds are used to promote environmentally sound horticulture practices through educational and other programs in the Fluvanna community.

There is a wonderful opportunity in C'ville on 6 April to learn from the experts about old trees on three Virginia Presidential estates. See the attached flyer for details.

There is a further opportunity to follow up this symposium the next weekend with an actual hike/ tour of a part of one of these forests. More info on the forest is here: http://www.montpelier.org/mansion-and-grounds/james-madisons-landmark-forest
