Old Farm Day
Fluvanna County
October 1, 2005

Fluvanna Master Gardeners will participate at the 10th Annual Fluvanna County Old Farm Day, Saturday, Oct. 1, 10:00 – 4:00. Old Farm Day commemorates our farming heritage in Central Virginia by showcasing antique farm equipment and techniques.  A special event this year will be the Virginia state-wide Jousting Contest to determine finalists for the Nationals.  Exhibits & activities reminiscent of the old farm lifestyle include basket weaving, chair caning, rug hooking, sheep shearing, spinning, weaving, blacksmithing, cornmeal grinding, corn shelling, square dancing, cider making, medieval dancing, free pony rides, free kiddie barrel train rides, 4-H livestock show, apple pie contest, home-canning contest, frog jumping contest, horseshoe tournament, and much more.

Fluvanna Master Gardeners’ exhibit will feature several presentations about fall gardening. Horticultural Help Desk information, posters, and pamphlets will be available. There will be a children’s table for identifying insects and leaves.  We will be selling dried plant material, bulbs & plants, Fluvanna gourds made into “Thanksgiving-people” & flower arrangements, cookies, and home-grown vegetables.  The exhibit will be located directly behind the Historic Pleasant Grove House.
