Goochland-Powhatan Master Gardeners in cooperation with J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and Virginia Cooperative Extension present their Spring Garden Fest at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, 1851 Dickinson Road, Goochland.

Requires registration in advance. This is a great continuing education offering - good variety of topics and inexpensive.

They frequently have vendors on site.

The Fluvanna Master Gardeners will be conducting a community education workshop “Vegetables and Herbs for Beginners” on Saturday March 3 from 10 to 11:30 am at the Fluvanna County Public Library on route 53 in Palmyra. The workshop will be geared toward people who have not tried this type of gardening before or who might not have been as successful as they wished. Four County Master Gardeners is presenting a “Sparking Creativity in Your Garden” conference on Saturday, February 25th from 9am to 4pm at Daniel Technology Center in Culpeper, Virginia.

The day long conference will feature Dr. Holly Scoggins and Karen Rexrode as speakers. Topics include Great Natives for Your Virginia Garden, Garden Flow, Totally Tropical, and Photography and the Garden. cost is $40 for the public and $35 for active Master Gardeners and lunch is included. Composting Workshop – open to all Fluvanna residents

FREE COMPOSTING WORKSHOP ON NOVEMBER 19 from 3 to 5 pm at LM Clubhouse

The Lake Monticello Owners’ Association Subcommittee on Leaf Disposal Alternatives has teamed with Fluvanna County, Fluvanna Extension Service and Fluvanna Master Gardens to offer a free comprehensive workshop on composting on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 3 to 5 PM in the Terrace Room of the Clubhouse on Ashlawn Blvd (enter through Main Gate). Master Gardener Irene Burke and others will talk about composting and demonstrate a variety of composting methods. There will be handouts and displays of composting equipment, including a number of Geobin systems, donated by Fluvanna County using the State grant for litter, recycling and education. There will be light refreshments and door prizes of composting systems.

While they are a homeowner nuisance and release a potent odor, they are generally harmless to humans,” said Agriculture Secretary Buddy Hance.

Tomatoes 101

On Saturday April 30, the Fluvanna Master Gardeners hosted a tomato workshop presented by Marie Taylor. Not only did Marie share a wealth of information about tomatoes and growing tomatoes, she also shared her baked goods made with green tomato mincemeat and tomato paste.

Some MGs have been growing tomatoes over the winter months to sell at the workshop and our attendees were very generous in their support. Thank you!
