About Session Presenter: Michael Lachance serves as the agriculture Extension agent in Nelson County, Virginia since November 1993, providing Virginia Cooperative Extension programs in forage-based agriculture production, commercial horticulture enterprises, and natural resource conservation for central Virginia. Areas of concentration include: successful farm management, integrated pest management, local market development, and rural community sustainability. Michael serves on the state steering committees of the Virginia Master Naturalist Program and the Virginia Master Beekeeper program. He has been an active beekeeper for 18 years.
Michael lives in the Rockfish Depot area of Nelson County with his wife Cindy, who works as a school-based RN. They have a home on five acres of mountainside, and enjoy greatly the surrounding terrain and Rockfish River. Michael also spends considerable time dreaming about vintage camping forays or getting his 17 foot Thistle under sail. In addition, he has a great love for natural history and is an active field entomologist, with particular interests in wood boring beetles, dragonflies and grasshoppers.
